Information session KIA ST: From National Technology Strategy to Action Agendas

The National Technology Strategy (NTS) prioritizes 10 (key) technologies that make a major contribution to our earning capacity, are crucial for societal challenges, are important for national security and enable Dutch technological leadership. The National Technology Strategy formulates one agenda with ambitions for each priority: dots on the horizon. To get there, the relevant innovation ecosystem must jointly come up with a plan for each subject to tackle the most important challenges and focus efforts on them. What does it take to achieve this?

Action agendas and the KIA ST

The KIA Key Technologies builds on the agendas and ambitions of the NTS. We aim for an action agenda for each technology in which all important parties involved in the field describe what the most important challenges are to fulfill the NTS ambitions for this key technology and what activities will be deployed to achieve this. We are complementary to existing and future initiatives at national (such as National Growth Fund programs) and international (such as IPCEIs) level.

First, action agendas are drawn up for the NTS technologies Optical Systems and Integrated Photonics and Mechatronics and (opto)mechatronics. The other action agendas will also be launched in phases in the near future.

In this online information session we inform everyone from the broad key technology field about these developments:

  • Why do we develop these action agendas from the KIA ST and how do we do this?
  • What (financial) instruments do we see for the implementation of the agendas?
  • How did we arrive at the choice of the first two subjects of the action agendas?

Program

12:30 | Opening and welcome | Koen Vermeer, programmanager Holland High Tech

12:35 | Introduction and background of the KIA ST action agendas | Leo Warmerdam, director Holland High Tech
From the KIA ST we initiate the development of action agendas for all priority (key) technologies. We discuss the goals, scope and deliverables of the action agendas and how the action agendas are formed. In addition, the possible (financial) instruments available for the implementation of the agendas and the choice of the first two topics are discussed.

12:50 | Action agenda Optical systems and integrated photonics | Wilbert IJzerman, professor Illumination Optics at TU/e and and department head Lighting Technology at Signify
The most important goals and challenges for the ecosystem surrounding the NTS technology Optical Systems and Integrated Photonics are explained, as well as the formation of the action agenda.

13:00 | Action agenda Mechatronics and (opto)mechatronics | Gregor van Baars, System Engineer at TNO Technical Sciences
The most important goals and challenges for the ecosystem surrounding the NTS technology Mechatronics and (opto)mechatronics are explained, as well as the formation of the action agenda.

13:10 | Next steps action agendas | Leo Warmerdam, director Holland High Tech
The planning of all action agendas and the possibilities for everyone from the broad key technology field to connect and contribute ideas are discussed.

13:20 | Questions and closing

National Technology Strategy (NTS)

This strategy describes ten priority key technologies with associated agendas that the government has developed. These technologies have a strong base in the Netherlands. They make an explicit contribution to our earning capacity and to solving social challenges. They are important for national security and reducing unwanted strategic dependencies. The NTS helps to implement strategic technology, innovation, industry and entrepreneurship policy.
